CSC 32 – Battleware Fighting Championships, which was sanctioned by the WKA USA, had a “sell out” crowd at their show (Jan. 21, 2012) in the Crowne Plaza Richmond – West Ballroom. The show featured professional MMA and amateur Muay Thai matches. The new venue proved well for CSC promoters who packed the house, with a “sell out’ crowd. The CSC fight show is know for its diverse cards and competitive match ups, with the CSC 32 hitting the mark on both accounts. Main card featured one WKA amateur Virginia State title and one WKA US amateur Muay Thai title matches and 4 Professional MMA matches.

A full under card of top level amateur Muay Thai was highlighted by the second round KO by Brian Butler, who also happens to be the president and CEO of Sucker Punch Ent, one of the top fighter management companies in the industry. The KO brought Butler KO-of-the-night honors for CSC 32. Perhaps the “technician” of the night honors should go to Ani Hilditch for her win over Robin Reese to take the WKA Virginia State title. The much anticipated WKA US title defense between the title holder Brandon Mickens and Carlos Lopez was a tactical battle with both fighters trying to maneuver into the best range for their skill set. In the end it was Lopez who ended up ahead on the score cards and taking the US title belt.

The Professional card was kicked off by a match from two popular Virginia based gyms, Umaer Haq (MiKiKo MMA) and Richard Ostrum (Global Martial Arts). Both fighters came in great shape figuring they were in for a war, but Haq was able catch Ostrum with an armbar at 2:00 of the first round. In the second Pro MMA match Duane van Helvoirt out of Calamaro Gym/ Gracie Barra Holland and training out of Combat Sports Center scored a quick reverse triangle win at :55 of the first round over rough and tough Joe Maiani from Team Genocide. The first match of the co-main event featured former kickboxer and local favorite Fancois Ambang (Total Victory MMA) and hard hitting Anthony Jamisom (S&S Boxing). Jamison came out hard and seemed in control, but ultimately got stopped with a rear naked choke at 2:10 in the second round. The main event brought in experienced Ryan McIntosh (Juggernaut MMA) to face long time RVA fighter Dwayne Shelton (Combat Sports Center). Both fighters came out swinging looking to the early KO. McIntosh, feeling the pressure in the stand up game, looked to take Shelton to the ground. However, Shelton edged out McIntosh on the ground as well and ended up with the submission win at 3:57 in the first round.

CSC 33 – Battleware Fighting Championships will follow up with another Pro/ama show at the Crowne PLaza Richmond – West in RVA on May 26, 2012. The show will feature both professional and amateur match ups in MMA and Muay Thai.

CSC-Battleware Fighting Championships are sponsored by: Battleware Technoliges, Mulligans Sports Bar, ILikeToSave.com and hosted by Combat Sports Center

MMA/MUAY THAI EVENTS ON GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

Special Free Weekly View’s of previous PPV fight/events at GFL’s Facebook.com/GFLiTV and Ustream.com/GFLTV

- Friday, January 27, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring Cut Throat MMA Invasion 5 Aurora, La Sierra, Aurora, Illinois. In the main event, for the Cut Throat MMA Middleweight Title, Sam Ferguson (2-1-1) of Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu fights Ryan Kirwan (2-3). Ferguson is coming off a first round TKO victory in his last fight, and shows the evolution of the Gracie-schooled fighter. Ferguson’s other victory also came via first round KO so don’t let his home gym fool you, he is an all-around MMA fighter. Kirwan has hit a tough skid, but a victory against Ferfuson will erase his last three fights in a split second. Kirwan also likes to do damage with his fists, as both of this victories have come via KO or TKO stoppage. This could be a wild fight if the athletes decide to keep it standing, someone is bound to drop. It could also be a classic grappling contest, although one that Ferguson should have the advantage. So expect Kirwan to want to turn this into a kickboxing match, which might be just fine for Ferguson. Either way, both gladiators are coming out guns blazing as this is not only the main event, but a title fight, and it would be the first title for either man in their budding MMA careers. In the co-main event, Tom Shoaff fights Anthony Nichols. Being the co-main event is a huge step for these two, so don’t be surprised if they have “fight of the night” and impress the audience with their performance. Both Shoaff and Nichols are well rounded so it will be who can dictate the pace of the fight that might decide who the winner will be. The fighter with the best cardio conditioning will have an edge in this battle.

- Friday, January 27, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring TaKe-On Productions presents Battle at the 7 Train XI at the 7 Train Theatre in Flushing, New York. The card featured at hotly anticipated main event, along with the semifinals of the 155 lb “Rising Stars” 8-man tournament. If you love the striking game, this is the event for you. TaKe-On always puts together great Muay Thai events that feature high level striking with blistering kicks, punches, knees and elbows. In the main event, Turan “The Tornado” Hasanov (6-4) out of the Fight Factory in Brooklyn, New York battles Sean Hinds (15-5) from Mushin MMA in New York City. Hasanov is a fast paced fighter who likes to throw punches in bunches. Look for him to come out using all 8 striking points right from the opening bell. For Hinds, he has a more eclectic style as he has traveled the world and picked up various different styles and methods of Muay Thai. Hinds utilizes primarily stiff punches and kicks along with a very strong clinch to do his damage. This bout will be a matchup of one fighter who looks to constantly strike and put the pressure on while the other fighter is more methodical in his approach and a great counter puncher as well. In one of the 155 lb tournament fights, James Gregory (4-0) from Cool Hearts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, fights Andrilo “Jr” Suarez (2-0) from American Killer Bees in Queens, New York. Both Gregory and Suarez won by decision their last fight and for one of them, a victory here will keep their record perfect and also put them into the finals of the “Rising Stars” Tourney. Gregory has twice the experience as Suarez and will look to capitalize on that by giving Suarez a bunch of different angles when he throws his strikes. For Suarez, he will probably come out hands down and chin up, which has proven very successful in his career so far. In the second bout in the 155 lb tournament, Akio Nakasone (2-0) from The Wat in New York City battles Freddy Cheung (1-1) from Sitan Gym in Queens. Nakasone won his previous bout by decision, while Cheung won his by KO, the only fighter to do so. Both fighters are just getting their Muay Thai careers going and for one of them, a victory here already places them in the finals of the tourney.

- Saturday, January 28, 2012 8:30pm ET featuring Elite 1 MMA – Heavy Hitters, Casino New Brunswick, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. In the main event, for the Elite 1 MMA Light Heavyweight Championship, Chris Johnson (2-2) fights Dana Dickeson (1-1). Johnson is coming off a victory in his last fight for Elite 1 where he won by rear naked choke in the first round. Johnson likes to bang on his feet, but is also a competent grappler as his last victory showed. For Dickeson, he is looking to get the fight to the ground where he won his first bout via TKO, and deliver some ground and pound on Johnson. With both gladiators liking to fight on the mat, this could be a contest where the wrestling and grappling is nullified and it turns into a boxing or kickboxing match. If that happens, don’t expect the fight to go the distance as these two beasts will be throwing heavy leather. In the co-main event, for the Elite 1 MMA Welterweight Championship, Richard Arsenault (1-2) battles Ricky Goodall (6-4). Arsenault is coming off of a long layoff, so ring rust might be a factor in this bout. It could also be a positive as it gave Arsenault time to hone his craft and come back a completely different fighter. For Goodall, who has 3 times the cage experience as Arsenault, look for him to test Arsenault early to see where his cardio conditioning is go for the win in the opening round. If that happens fans should be treated to a barnburner of a fight, because this bout if for a title and that tends to lend itself to fighters pushing the action even more.

Feb. 25 At Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS(Jan. 9, 2012) – WBC Interim World Light Heavyweight Muay Thai Champion Joe Schilling (12-1 (10 KO’s), one of America’s premiere American combatants, has signed a new multi-fight agreement with leading Las Vegas-based Muay Thai fight organization, Lion Fight Promotions.
The 27 year-old Los Angeles resident will kick off his new contract when he squares off with top contender Simon Marcus (42-2-2 (24 KO’s) of Toronto, Ontario Canada in the main event of Lion Fight Promotions: Battle In The Desert 5, Live from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Sat., Feb. 25.
Ticket on-sale information for Battle In The Desert 5, Live from The Joint will be announced soon as will the remainder of the fight card.
“Lion Fight Promotions is taking the bull by the horns as far as bringing the sport of Muay Thai to mainstream America and making it a major sport here, so it’s the perfect home for me because Muay Thai is my life and I want to fight the best fighters out there on a big stage,” said the 6-foot-3 Schilling, who has been referred to as “Muay Thai’s version of Mike Tyson” for his merciless style of fighting in the ring.
“Joe Schilling is one of the best talents in the sport of Muay Thai today,” said Lion Fight Promotions President Scott Kent. “He’s explosive, brutal and he has a burning desire to become one of the all-time greats in our incredible sport. We’re excited to have him on board with Lion Fight Promotions for the long run and we’re looking forward to putting on some great shows with him.”
Schilling is coming off a stunning first round KO of former K-1 World Grand Prix tournament champion and decorated Muay Thai champion Kaoklai Kaennorsing of Bangkok, Thailand on Oct 21 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. Schilling put Kaennorsing down for the first time just 25 seconds into the matchup with a powerful right hook to the head and, a second time with a straight right hand 42 seconds into the fight.
After recovering from the second knockdown, Kaennorsing did his best to tie up the aggressive Schilling, who found his mark once again at 2:46 of the first round, crumbling Kaennorsing with another hard right hand that prompted the referee to stop the fight and award Schilling his greatest victory to date.
The Feb. 25 fight with Marcus will mark Schilling’s second career fight with Lion Fight Promotions. Last Aug. 20, Schilling captured the WBC USA light heavyweight title by scoring a brutal first round (2:38) KO on Brandon Banda with a straight left knee strike to the jaw that rendered Banda unconscious on the canvas.

“I’m not going to outpoint (Marcus). I’m going to knock him out. That’s what I do,” said Schilling.
Schilling, a native of Dayton, Ohio, comes from the school of hard knocks. Raised by a single mother, Schilling, the youngest of three boys, was expelled from four different schools before reaching high school when he suddenly discovered his passion that would give him direction and focus – martial arts, namely Muay Thai style kickboxing.
Not long after being kicked out of his home at age 17, Schilling acted on his dream of relocating to California. He touched down in Los Angeles where he found a Muay Thai trainer in Mark Komuro.

Together, Schilling and Komuro eventually converted a former jail in Lincoln Heights, a lower income section of Los Angeles, into a Muay Thai gym and named their training camp “The Yard,” after the outdoor location in jailhouses where prisoners do assigned work.

Dear Friends,

We wanted to take a moment to introduce to you Coban’s original camp in Buriram, Thailand, Camp Lookchaomaesaitong. This is where everything began for Coban. It is a legendary camp. After Coban left to the U.S., the Camp closed down, and it remained closed for over a decade. In 2009, the owner of the Camp (also Coban’s manager and Father figure) re-opened the Camp with the assistance and support of his son-in-law, Namkabuan. It is fully operational now. It has a full stock of fearless fighters, local and international. The Camp also welcomes non-competing foreign Muay Thai enthusiasts.

With the Grand Opening of Coban’s Muay Thai Camp, NYC just looming around the corner, I wanted to let everyone know that we are a part of Camp Lookchaomaesaitong. In the near future, we will be fully bridged and connected with them This way, we can host outstanding trainers from Buriram to NYC, and be able to coordinate training in Buriram for those wishing to experience Muay Thai in Thailand.

There are many exciting things coming up for us. I wanted to thank you for your continued support and for coming along with us in this journey.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Coban or myself.

Thank you and see you soon!!
Coban and Sandra

MMA/MUAY THAI EVENTS ON GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

Special Free Weekly View’s of previous PPV fight/events at GFL’s Facebook.com/GFLiTV and Ustream.com/GFLTV

- Friday, December 16, 2011 8:30pm ET featuring Rising Stars of Muay Thai presented by Take-On Productions, 7 Train Theater, Flushing, NY. The Main Event is the Northeastern WKA title bout between NYC’s Stoney “Catfish” Morales and Philadelphia’s Osvaldo “June” Dominguez. In addition to the other exciting match ups on the card, 8 fighters from the Northeast (NYC, NJ, Philadelphia) will fight to become the last man standing in what is sure to be an exciting display of skill, heart, and determination. Take On has always done well to make its amateur fighters feel like absolute stars and rightfully so since it is the amateur fighters who eventually rise to become the future professional world champions of our great sport! The fighters that have been selected as part of this amateur tournament are Andrilo Suarez, Freddy Cheung, James Gregory, Mike Koufalis, Chris Liveri, Chris Springer, Mike Martinez, and Andre Miller. Unlike other 8-Man tournaments, the outcome of this tournament will not be decided on the same night. Take-On Productions has decided to award the two finalists of the 8-Man tournament by announcing that their final bout of the “Rising Stars” tournament will take place at Take On Productions and MSG Sports’ second venture at The Beacon Theater in Manhattan at “Battle at the Beacon 2″ in January 2012!

- Saturday, December 17, 2011 7:00pm ET featuring Dead Serious Two from Rahway Rec Center, NJ. In the main event, Dead Serious MMA Featherweight Champion RJ Starace (3-3) fights Daniel Carbonel (5-6). Starace won the title at the inaugural DSMMA event in October with a unanimous victory in a bout that was a barnburner. The champ is back and ready for his first title defense as he looks to keep his career moving in the right direction. For Carbonel, three of his five wins have come via submission, so don’t be surprised if Carbonel looks for a takedown early in Round 1. Carbonel is on a two-fight win streak and looks to make it three in a row and take home the Dead Serious 145 lb title in the process. The featherweight division is one of the sport’s most exciting divisions, so don’t blink during the main event, because it will look like two Tasmanian Devils attacking one another. In another tri-main event, Stephen Regman (5-2) fresh of a victory at Dead Serious One and the reigning Welterweight Champion will defend his title against Michael Sanders (4-1). Regman is known for his hand speed and power, but he also showed in his last fight that he has great cardio conditioning and enough in the tank to win a hard fought decision as well. For Sanders, he is coming off a submission victory in less than a minute for a championship in another organization, so expect him to want to pick up right where he left off and look to take Regman down to the mat and apply another quick submission. In the third title fight of the evening, Dead Serious Lightweight Champion Jonathan Pecyna (4-2) battles undefeated fighter Chris Sladky (2-0). Pecyna won the title by choke in spectacular fashion and is set to defend his title and end 2011 with a bang

- Saturday, December 17, 2011 9:00pm ET featuring Ring of Fire 42 – Who’s Next, 1st Bank Center, Bloomfield, CO. Headlining the event will be a battle of two of the top Featherweight prospects in the country. Former ROF Champion Tyler THUNDER Toner (12-3) will be going after another “W” against one of the region’s most dangerous fighters Nick Macias (9-4). After the conclusion of ROF 41 there was no one more deserving of a standing ovation then Colorado’s Tyler Toner. In one of the most amazing displays of heart and tenacity, Toner struggled to hold off a stronger opponent, JR Sims for 3 rounds. In what became a comeback for the ages, Toner stunned Sims late in the 3rd and continued to press the attack until the referee was forced to stop the fight? The entire arena was on its feet and the feeling was electric. Making his debut to the RING OF FIRE and the 145lb weight class is former IFL Champion Ryan THE LION Schultz. Schultz is an American mixed martial artist that has competed in some of the world’s most recognized fighting organizations including the WEC, Sengoku, and the IFL. With a strong background in wrestling, several years of experience, and an explosive fighting style, Ryan is a fierce competitor and one of the sport’s most exciting fighters to watch. Shultz was always known as one of the bigger 155 lb fighters and will be huge at 145. Shultz started his career with the famous Team Quest in the Pacific North West. But the Nebraska native moved back towards his roots and now runs TRIALS MMA in Ft. Collins, CO with UFC fighter Ed Herman. Michelle BOBCAT Blalock is quickly becoming a fan favorite at ROF. Her high energy entrances to the cage, and high intensity inside the cage gets the fans on their feet. Her trademark growl across the cage has both her opponent and some of the VIP’s front row having second thoughts. Blalock is a Sambo based fighter and has a perfect record of 7-0. She has finished all but one of her opponents. She will be making her 2nd defense of the promotions’ 125 lb Young Gun Belt at ROF 42: WHO’S NEXT. A win here will put her in the top rankings and open up opportunities internationally as well. After 3 opponents dropping out, Strikeforce veteran Lacey THE LADY Schuckman has agreed to face Blalock for the belt. Shuckman has a 6-4 MMA record and is coming off of her pro boxing debut, where she TKO’ed her opponent in the first round. The fighter making the fastest rise up the ranks is high level wrestler Justin THE HIGHLIGHT Gaethje. He has moved through every opponent put in front of him and has a perfect 9-0 record. After his first few fights ROF promoter Sven Bean gave him the nick name “THE HIGHLIGHT”. “This kid is a stud, if he gets his hands on you there is a great chance you will be flying through the air. The nick name was a natural because after every one of his fights we have 4-5 highlights for the next fight. He is going to go as far as he wants in this sport.” said Bean. Already more than one MMA reporter has noticed his resemblance in style to an early Matt Hughes, if that is any indication as to his future..it is very bright. Facing Gaethje will be Donnie THE HITMAN Bell from Grand Pararie, Texas. The 21 year old fighter has Record 6-1 record and a strong wrestling background as well. He was Texas State wrestling champion, and at the college level wrestled in Iowa under Luke Moffat. Industry insiders are already laying odds as to this bout taking Fight of the Night Honors.

- Sunday, December 18, 2011 (Tape Delayed VOD Next week) featuring Thai Fight – 2011 Finals, Bangkok, Thailand. Buakaw Por. Pramuk from Thailand faces Frankie Giorgio from Australia in the 154 lb tournament finale. Buakaw has been dubbed a “national treasure” of Thailand and is the heavy favorite going into the bout against Giorgi in front of his homeland of Thailand. This is a matchup of conflicting styles in this super welterweight battle as Buakaw is a precision striker, who darts in to land strikes and then moves to a safe distance before his opponent can launch his own attack, while Giorgio has been compared to the movie character, Rocky, for his ability to wade into punches and kicks and absorb a lot of punishment while dishing out his own. Giorgi will need a Rocky-type performance as Buakaw has not been beaten since his days where he dominated K-1 many years ago. Kem Sitsongpeenong from Thailand battles last year’s Thai Fight Tournament Champion, Fabio Pinca from France in the 147 lb tournament final. Pinca’s WBC World Welterweight Championship will also be on the line in this bout as he looks to repeat as Thai Fight Champion in back to back years. Kem defeated Pinca earlier in their careers but this bout will be an entirely different animal. Both fighters have grown since their first meeting and if anything, all it will do is light a fire under Pinca’s belly to avenge the loss. Kem will have the home crowd at his side and will need all the help he can get as Pinca has been on a hot streak for the last two years. Pinca is also a wizard at tight grappling and clinch work, so he will prove a tough test for Kem when they two go to battle on the inside.

Other non MMA events this week: Pro-Wrestling: PWO Brawl in the Hall: Dec 17 6:00pm ET, Impact Zone Wrestling – Chaotic Christmas: Dec 17, 2011 8:00pm ET.

Sam-A Kratingdanggym, the triple rated pint sized boxer with the heart of a lion, capped off a remarkable year on Thursday when he won the Lumpinee Stadium’s prestigious best Muay Thai fighter of the year award. The Buri Ram warrior was presented with the stadium’s dark blue champion jacket at Lumpinee’s annual birthday awards.

Sam-A said the award was the highest honour he had received since bursting into the elite fighting league of the premier Bangkok boxing stadiums.

He has been unbeatable all year in weight divisions ranging from 121 to 126 pounds.

Sam-A was judged against an elite peer group that included the Muay Thai three “invincibles” _ Saenchai Sor Kingstar, Sakeddao Petchboonchu and Kongsak Sitboonmee.

Sam-A’s fame is destined for worldwide exposure. His remarkable life story _ climbing up from being a little known Buri Ram boxer to the pinnacle of Muay Thai stardom _ will be featured as a sports documentary on the National Geographic Channel and televised worldwide next year.

Known for his stoic lifestyle and strict training regime, Sam-A said he was humbled to receive the Lumpinee award.

“I am just thankful that I was born with talent to fight Muay Thai. There are hundreds of teenagers in Buri Ram who dream of fighting at Lumpinee Stadium. Winning the stadium’s fighter of the year award is truly a great honour. It makes me feel so proud to be born a Thai and to be able to live the life of Muay Thai.”

Buakaw Sor Pramuk also received his Lumpinee jacket for winning the year’s most outstanding Muay Thai boxer on the international stage.
