You have been invited to attend the monthly Research Group Gathering
We are looking to practice martial arts beyond the restrictions of any particular style or methodology.
Research can be defined as the search for knowledge, or as any systematic investigation, with an open mind, to establish novel facts, usually using a scientific method. The primary purpose for applied research (as opposed to basic research) is discovering, interpreting, and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of our martial arts knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
The goal of the research process is to produce new knowledge. This process takes three main forms.
Exploratory research, which structures and identifies problems
Constructive research, which develops solutions to a problem
Empirical research, which tests the feasibility of a solution using empirical evidence
We are not bound by styles, tradition or dogma.
In order to progress we need to research our own experience.
Lee use to say:
“I’m no style, but I’m all styles. You don’t know what I’m going to do and I don’t even know what I’m going to do. My movement is the result of your movement; my technique is the result of your technique.”
The Three Stages of cultivation:
The first stage is the primitive stage. “The stage of original ignorance.” – You don’t know shit!
The second stage is the stage of sophistication. “The Mechanical Stage.” – You think you know shit!
The third stage is called the “Stage of Artlessness.” – You are Free from all the bullshit.
